GUUG and the judicial district of Piazza Cavour

The Palace of Justice in Piazza Cavour, commonly known as the Palazzaccio, is the heart of Rome's court of last resort. Built between 1889 and 1911 by the architect Guglielmo Calderini, today it houses the Supreme Court of Cassation, the General Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Cassation, the Rome Bar Association Council, the Central Law Library and the Superior Court for Public Waters. Around the Palazzaccio — between Lungotevere Castello, via Triboniano, via Ulpiano and piazza dei Tribunali — sits the highest concentration of law firms, notary offices, experts, court-appointed technical consultants (CTU), sworn translators and judicial investigators in all of central Rome.

GUUG is at Via di Porta Castello 29, 00193 Rome — exactly the same postcode as the Palazzaccio. The distance is short: you cross Castel Sant'Angelo, walk along the Lungotevere and in 7-10 minutes on foot you reach Piazza Cavour. For over twenty years we have worked with the lawyers, notaries, experts and law firms of the area: we know the filing deadlines, the format required by the Court of Cassation, certified copies, properly bound case files, and the speed needed when a document has to be filed with the court registry in the afternoon.

For firms in the historic centre — around Piazza Cavour, Borgo, Castel Sant'Angelo, Prati and Cola di Rienzo — pickup on foot is the cleanest solution: no waiting for a courier, no shipping cost. You send the file by email at 11 in the morning, by noon the bound case file is in your assistant's hands, and by 1 pm it is filed with the court registry. For firms further away (Trastevere, Aventino, Eur) we arrange same-day express courier or a dedicated motorcycle for the most urgent documents.

For those who work around Piazza Cavour

Over the last twenty years these are the professional profiles that have chosen us. Each with specific needs, different timescales and formats.

Cassazione lawyers

Specialists in proceedings before the court of last resort. Numbered appeals, copy format + courtesy copies for the judges, often under pressing filing deadlines. In recent years the switch to electronic filing has changed the format but not the timing: a paper copy is still often needed for briefs and for use during hearings.

Law firms in the historic centre

Between Prati, Borgo, Piazza Cavour and via Cola di Rienzo there are hundreds of partnership and sole-practitioner firms. Typical needs: bound case files, documents for hearings, certified copies and defence briefs in series.

Notary offices

Notaries based in the Prati and Castel Sant'Angelo area. Printing of conveyances, powers of attorney, wills and corporate deeds on watermarked paper, numbered thermal binding, certified copies for the parties and for the notarial archives.

Technical experts and CTU

Building surveyors, engineers, architects, agronomists and forensic doctors. Reports with technical attachments, A3-A1 CAD drawings, photos and certifications. Often to be filed with the court within strict deadlines.

Trainees and assistants

Trainee lawyers, law PhD students and researchers at the Central Law Library. Bulk photocopies of rulings, case-law collections, study files and handouts for bar exams.

Investigators and sworn translators

Private investigators, sworn translators for documents filed with the Court of Cassation and the courts, and handwriting experts. Confidential documents that must be handled discreetly, certified copies and bound case files.

Court deadlines: what it means to work with legal documents

Court deadlines are not negotiable. Our internal organisation is built on this principle.

Ready the same day if needed

For documents already laid out and in the correct format, only 30-60 minutes pass from receiving the file to pickup in the shop. If the file reaches us at 11 in the morning, by noon the bound case file is ready at the counter. For bulky documents (200-500 pages, with attachments) it takes 2-4 hours.

Pickup on foot or dedicated delivery

From Piazza Cavour our shop is a 7-10 minute walk away (crossing Castel Sant'Angelo). For firms further away we arrange same-day express courier or, for strict-deadline documents, a dedicated motorcycle all the way to filing with the court registry.

Absolute confidentiality

We have worked with confidential documents (trials, expert reports, criminal proceedings) for over twenty years. Our staff is trained in discretion, files are deleted after delivery unless a client requests archiving, and surplus copies never leave the counter.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to reach your shop from Piazza Cavour?
7-10 minutes on foot. You leave the Palazzaccio on the Lungotevere side, cross Castel Sant'Angelo (Ponte Sant'Angelo), turn into via di Porta Castello and within a few steps you are at the shop at number 29. If you are in a hurry, you can email us the file while you walk: by the time you arrive the job is often already done.
Do you print appeals and documents intended for the Court of Cassation?
Yes, it is one of our specialities. We print appeals, counter-appeals, explanatory briefs and motions for the Court of Cassation. We respect the format, progressive pagination, numbering, original copy + courtesy copies for the judges. Dedicated page: Cassazione appeals.
Do you have clients among the Cassazione lawyers of Piazza Cavour?
Yes, for over twenty years we have worked with Cassazione lawyers, law firms in Piazza Cavour, along the Lungotevere and Cola di Rienzo, and notary offices in Prati and Borgo. Discretion is the rule: we do not name our clients, but our 600+ Google reviews at 4.9★ largely come from this professional clientele.
How does delivery work if I have a court registry deadline in the afternoon?
Send us the file by email (to stampa@guug.it) or via WhatsApp with a note about the deadline. We reply within 15-30 minutes confirming that it can be done in time and indicating the pickup slot. For strict same-day deadlines we arrange, if necessary, dedicated motorcycle delivery directly to the court registry at the Palazzaccio (or to the court at Piazzale Clodio, if needed).
Do you print certified and true copies?
We print high-quality copies identical to the original (paper, format, print quality). The formal certification of conformity is an act of the notary or the defence lawyer (for copies of court documents): we provide the physical material, while the certification stamp is applied by the professional. For copies intended for filing with the court registry we check that pagination, numbering and format are consistent.
Do you work with notaries and notary offices in the area?
Yes. Notary offices are a typical client: printing of conveyances, public deeds, powers of attorney, wills, corporate deeds and registers on watermarked or standard paper, numbered thermal binding, certified copies for the parties and for the notarial archives. Dedicated page: notarial deeds.
Do you print technical reports with attachments and CAD drawings?
Yes, it is a service we handle regularly for CTU experts, engineers, architects, agronomists and forensic doctors. We print the report text + technical attachments (CAD drawings up to A0+, photos, certifications, cadastral records, floor plans). Coordinated binding of text and attachments with indexes and progressive numbering. Dedicated page: technical reports.
My cases are confidential. How do you handle confidentiality?
For twenty years we have handled confidential documents (criminal proceedings, sensitive expert reports, separation and divorce papers, corporate litigation). Our staff is trained in confidentiality, the counter is kept tidy so that different clients' materials are never left on view, and digital files are deleted from the system after delivery unless you explicitly request client archiving. Surplus copies do not leave the counter: if you need them, you collect them yourself.
Do you also work with the Ordinary Court of Rome at Piazzale Clodio?
Yes. The Ordinary Court of Rome has been based at Piazzale Clodio since 1968 (about 1.5 km from the Palazzaccio in Piazza Cavour). For documents intended for the Ordinary Court (court of first instance, preliminary investigation and preliminary hearing judges, criminal and civil sections) we work in the same way: printing, binding, delivery on foot or by dedicated motorcycle. The distance from us is always covered the same day by express courier or motorcycle.
