Note: we check conformance to the ISO 19005 (PDF/A) standard. Each university may require a specific level.

What PDF/A is and why it matters for your thesis

PDF/A (the ISO 19005 standard) is the PDF variant built for long-term archiving: it embeds all fonts and colour information so the document stays identical over the years and on any computer. That is why many universities require it for digital thesis submission, often before the bound copy is due.

A regular PDF exported from Word or LibreOffice is often not a PDF/A: it may miss the format identification, metadata, or embedded fonts. Our checker uses veraPDF, the reference validator for the standard, and tells you right away whether your file is compliant.
