Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to print and bind a thesis?
It depends on the number of pages and the binding. Thermal binding costs € 8, the hardcover with gold or silver hot-foil lettering € 25. Printing is € 0.05 per side in black and white and € 0.40 in colour. A 100-page black and white thesis comes to € 13 with thermal binding and € 30 with the hardcover, VAT included. You can see the exact total straight away with the thesis price calculator, or send us the PDF and we tell you before printing.
How long does a hardcover thesis take?
Two hours, guaranteed, during opening hours: if the file reaches us by 5pm you pick it up the same day. Thermal binding is ready in five minutes and you can wait in the shop. On session deadline days it's best to send the file in the morning: the work is the same, but the queue is longer. Short on time? See the urgent thesis page.
Can I send you the file from home instead of coming in?
Yes, and it's the easiest way. Upload the PDF from our online shop, or send it on WhatsApp or by e-mail to stampa@guug.it. We prepare everything and let you know when it's ready to collect: no waiting in the shop. If the file has a problem we tell you before printing, not after.
Do you do perfect binding?
No, we don't do perfect binding. We do thermal binding, which looks similar and is the right choice for reading copies, and the hardcover with hot-foil lettering for the official copy. For drafts there's also spiral binding. If your university specifically asks for perfect binding, tell us and we'll point you in the right direction.
Are you open on Saturdays?
No. We're open Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm, without a lunch break; we're closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Online orders can be placed at any time: work starts when we reopen. Holiday closures are announced on the website and on our Google listing a few weeks in advance.
Do you know the cover colours for my university?
Very likely, yes: we keep the colour rules for the eighteen universities in Rome and more, because people ask us all the time. Tell us your university and faculty and we'll confirm the shade and the type of hot-foil lettering. The full map is in our guide to thesis cover colours by faculty. If your university isn't there, the official notice or the regulations page is enough and we follow it.
Do you print large posters for conferences?
Yes, it's one of the things we do most, together with theses: scientific posters in the standard conference sizes, banners, roll-ups and large banners. We need a good-resolution PDF: if in doubt, send it to us and we check it before printing, so you don't find the problem once the poster is done.
Do you speak English? Can I print my thesis with you?
Yes, we speak English at the counter and print theses for international students all year round. You can send the PDF by e-mail or WhatsApp and pick it up ready. We're at Via di Porta Castello 29, a two-minute walk from St. Peter's Square, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm.
Do you ship outside Rome?
Yes, we ship anywhere in Italy with tracked DHL courier, usually in 24-48 hours; for a thesis, shipping costs € 20. It's handy if you study in Rome but graduate elsewhere, or if you're writing to us from out of town. For very urgent deliveries, call first and we'll tell you whether it can make it in time.
Where exactly are you, and where can I park?
We're at Via di Porta Castello 29, in Rome's Prati district: two hundred metres from St. Peter's and a short walk from Castel Sant'Angelo. It's an easy walk from the Ottaviano and Lepanto metro stations. Parking in the area is hard at any time of day: if you can, come by metro.
