ABA Roma thesis cover colors

The right color at your defense: not a generic shade but the exact tone — your university's brand or your faculty's tradition — with high-definition gold or silver foil.

Main color

Accademia red

#d9000d — Red is the accent color of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma's logo (on a black background): a recognizable reference for covers. But there's no color rule at the Accademia: students choose based on their thesis project, their own aesthetic, their supervisor — and we regularly see black, burgundy, sage green and burnt sienna. At art schools the cover is an integral part of the creative project.

ABA Roma thesis printing: what to know

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma — abaroma.it — descends from the Accademia di San Luca, founded at the end of the sixteenth century and later the papal seat for artistic studies. In its current form it is a state institution, recognized by the MUR, with 9 departments ranging from traditional painting to contemporary multimedia arts.

GUUG is 1.5 km from the historic building at Via di Ripetta 222: a 15-minute walk across Ponte Cavour and past Piazza del Popolo. It's one of the academies closest to us, which is why we print around 300 ABA portfolios and theses a year: projects that stray from the traditional thesis and call for specific materials — fine art papers, large-format plotter, custom formats, saddle-stitch binding.

On this page you'll find GUUG's services designed for art schools (well beyond the traditional hard-cover thesis), the ABA locations with precise distances, and answers to the questions we regularly hear from Accademia students at our counter.

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma has three locations: Via di Ripetta 222 (historic building and management, 00186), Via del Corso 476 (annex, 00153), and Campo Boario at Largo Dino Frisullo (Multimedia Arts and Communication, 00153 Testaccio). From GUUG, the Ripetta building is the closest: 1.5 km, a 15-minute walk across Ponte Cavour. The Testaccio and Via del Corso locations are 20-25 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by car.

Frequently asked questions

What cover color do Accademia students use for their thesis?
There's no rule at the Accademia: the cover is part of the thesis project and everyone chooses based on their work. We see purple, antique pink, cyclamen, sage green, blood red, burnt sienna, deep blue. The cover often speaks to the research topic or the palette of the artistic project. We have over 40 leatherette shades in store: come and see them.
Can I print my thesis boards in large format?
Yes, it's one of the services ABA students ask for most. Large-format plotter up to B0 (1000×1414 mm) for set design, decoration, restoration, illustration and photography boards. Fine art papers in cotton, baryta or glossy depending on the project. Boards are supplied individually, in folders, or folded into the thesis when they're an integral part of the volume.
I'm making a photography portfolio for my thesis: what paper do you recommend?
For nude, landscape or conceptual photography we recommend cotton fine art paper or matte baryta: exceptional color rendering and a museum-grade tactile feel. For fashion or reportage projects, heavyweight glossy paper works better. Come to the shop with a sample file: we run a test print before launching the full job, so you can be sure of the result.
What binding works for a ABA course magazine?
For magazines, course booklets and editorial projects the most requested binding is the saddle stitch (staples or thread-sewn), which also allows landscape and album formats. Ready the same day. For more structured projects we can do Japanese binding, or a hard cover for major final projects.
How far is GUUG from the Via di Ripetta building?
1.5 km, a 15-minute walk across Ponte Cavour and on toward Piazza del Popolo. By public transport: bus 70, 81 or 87 from the Lungotevere. By car, 8 minutes without traffic. The other ABA locations (Via del Corso 476 and Campo Boario in Testaccio) are a bit farther, 20-30 minutes on foot or 10-15 by car.
How much does it cost to print a thesis?
Thermal binding starts at € 8, the hardcover from € 25; printing is € 0.05 per side in black and white and € 0.40 in colour. The exact price depends on pages, copies and finishing — you can calculate it with our configurator.
